Woman, Caribean and Literature

Final Speach
of Dlia Mc Donald for Morehouse, at IlISA,Costa Rica

The Caribbean is a piece of land housed along the imagined Atlantic region that extends from the lower part southern United States, throughout Latin America, including Venezuela, Peru and surrounding, and although belief or not, Puerto Rico and Haiti, is part of what was always considered the poor relative of any culture, closely taken into account until authors like VH Naipol, or Dereck Walcott, both Nobel laureates, began to give reference about its people and world: soon after that Caribbean Literature reached high tide with tales of witches and demons Pirates of the Caribbean, literarily speaking nothing else than an attraction created to move between racks of a traveling exhibition in NY; where women have been silent question of survival, guided only by our Motuola, our particular way of seeing and face the world; which it is proper to each person that living the same circumstances moves to be something different...

For women, in particular, has not been easy to assume that prerogative especially when they belong to ethnic groups, forced victims of discrimination because they are women, first, for black, indigenous, or xino-descendants in second and finally for their education and integration both within the culture and in the social sectors, an helix of social exclusion which represents unable to have an established like other life, which is developed based on an assigned status as a woman and mother, nothing plus; after all What are the options if we think that as women, good or bad, everything we do in some ways is visible only to questions? ...
The social canon of academic studies, leading to what has been called Caribbean literature, but that does not necessarily reflect the world of Afro-native ethnicity particular place as I call it, for my personal belief is that only descended from the heights or places of dangerous descent; but simply what we are: descendants of a long string of inconclusiones that being written are like trying to chew a piece of marinated glass in his own lust; which adds to previous knowledge to assume that we know what the inside of what they write ethnicities world is, especially women, by Nomolo, the meaning of the look as the old ones, of an analytical study of work and word linked to a specific image of submission evaluative who may or may not write according to their education; it is quite easy to judge what we do not know, or live, and that is just different understandings, looks, they end up being literary aesthetic that frame us from either side of the literary corpus in the study, as a professional accreditation there just to put food on the table but not to express ourselves properly...
Let’s assume that woman, Caribbean and Literature, are not necessarily a confluence converge in the same place nor are the same: it depends on those looks we talked about earlier; and is that islands, sea and tides, different cultural backgrounds that compaction form an identity that makes them seem always the same, is what is beyond literature, specifically since certain academic; especially Costa Rican thinks literature is only one and there is nothing new under the sun...

There is a hidden story between fiction and reality: embedded within the roles of hegemonic groups, the syncretism we have lived for years allows us a tangential knowledge of what we are able to broadcast from our own perspective and not so neither how others tell us we must write, we face the trauma of being coexistence which for lack of academic professionalism cannot become like the other hegemonic writers around us, and that in many ways try to tell us what and how to write...

For the academy; at least Costa Rica, the writer must have an educational media that equates him with a doctorate for his work to be known, and yet one of the most important writers of the Latin American African ethnicity was called June Bear, sparsely cultivated, whose office life was a fisherwoman who lives in the green shores of Bluefields, Nicaragua...

In regions where English culture, with the exception of Cuba, has educated fiefdoms of former slaves, inheritance of culture, and primarily the language, they are the result of the legacy from one generation to another, and mostly Nomolo matrilineal making the thread of our history rapporteur on an inside look that emerges as an alternative lifestyle of a world that no one, including them, understand.   Communication is part of life but life is not always communication. What we have to say, way we do it is clear from the autobiography of Harriet Tubman, a former slave from personal achievement, and abolitionist conviction that now is part of a controversial move for being included in future bills dollar that at this time cannot remember the name but at the same time she laid the foundations of the underground railroad that helped many to have a life story, she was able to know that under the sky of a new world, was the word and more specifically how we use it, gives us freedom to be who we want to be without any further discussion to be unique; genetic instinct or not, that makes us go ahead despite the obstacles: she, along with other slaves were the first writers of our ethnic group stepped forward to settle in women who knew very well the meaning of awakening...

In the age of the life of the first slaves, life was summed up in making a QUILT, which according to the tradition of African GRIOTS is a book that tells a new story every time we look at it, because like the facts of paper , to read it, meaning, origin and creation can change depending on what you are living; therefore, the advent of what women write our own, is not new knowledge but the look of the woman emerging walking under the sun with eyes wide open to what's in front of it; the challenge was put on paper and not on canvas, this dazzling make a story that is similar to looking through the eye of a needle, and we know that there are different types and uses that depend not so much yarn but what we go to do, joined together, or set the detail of different materials work or life stories, What ?, all depends on the intensity with which we live ...

In the Caribbean our stories can be told by anyone, but with the exception of Tony Morrison, or my favorite Maya Angelou, and because they are American, and belong to one of those countries with awareness towards healing the damage done by slavery made, the particular label that identifies us as bearers of a legacy that allows us to know that no matter the place where we are, the indivisible and incorruptible word can be used to create a BLACK WORLD that is not the same as CARIBBEAN WORLD, or any world in particular, because the writers, women in particular, understand what surrounds them from different links look, and were we is what we want...

Thank you …
